Didn't Marx and Engels also state that labor is the fundamental way that humans have of appropriating the world, or interacting with nature in ways that make it our own? To be without work entirely, or cooped up in purely mental work with no admixture of the menial in it, is to be largely alienated, isn't it?

Yes. As I say in the talk, we’re all prisoners of the Lutheran/Hegelian tradition, which of course includes Marx.
